Woman in her 70s in critical condition following town centre collision
A woman in her 70s is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Oldham town centre. The driver, a 24-year-old woman, was arrested and later released on bail. Police are appealing for witnesses or footage.
A woman in her 70s fights for her life in hospital after being struck by a car while crossing Manchester Street in Oldham yesterday morning.
The serious collision occurred at approximately 10:50am when a brown Vauxhall Corsa, which had been travelling along King Street, turned onto Manchester Street and hit the pedestrian. Emergency services rushed to the scene and transported the woman to hospital, where she remains in critical condition with serious injuries.
The 24-year-old driver stopped at the scene and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. Following police interview, she has been released on bail.
Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit has launched an appeal for witnesses to the incident. Officers are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who witnessed the collision or possesses dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time.
