Werneth Primary School welcomes international delegation

Werneth Primary School hosted an international delegation of education leaders and teacher trainers, including representatives from Leerpunt (a Flemish evidence centre), to showcase its evidence-based teaching practices. The visit was part of the Evidence for Education Network (EEN) initiative, aimed at improving educational equity through research-backed strategies. Attendees praised the school's implementation of evidence in classrooms and its collaborative culture.

International education leaders witnessed evidence-based teaching in action at Werneth Primary School this week, as part of a global initiative to strengthen research-informed education practices.

The Flemish delegation, organized through the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), included representatives from Leerpunt - an independent evidence centre established by the Flemish government in 2023. The visit brought 20 teacher training representatives from Belgium to observe how Werneth Primary embeds research evidence throughout its classrooms and school culture.

Leerpunt, which translates research into practical teaching strategies for Flemish schools, has partnered with EEF to adapt resources originally developed through the EEF’s Teaching and Learning Toolkit and Research Schools Network. This collaboration falls under the Evidence for Education Network (EEN), a coalition of ten international organizations working to advance educational equity through evidence-based practices across Europe, Western Asia, Middle Africa, Oceania, and Latin America.

Amy Faux, Senior International Manager at the EEF, praised the school’s approach: “It was really fantastic to see Research School exemplification in action, particularly the school’s use of the SEN in mainstream education guidance. We appreciated so many classrooms opening their doors, allowing us to see the threads of improvement strategies from Early Years to Year 6.”

The visitors observed evidence-based practices spanning all grade levels. Alida Pierards, Head of Primary Education at Hogeschool PXL, noted: “We were able to see the school culture, evidence, and collaboration between teachers in every class we visited. It was a great visit. I return to Belgium with lots of inspiration to share.”

Louise Astbury, Director of Pinnacle Learning Research School, emphasized the significance of the exchange: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome international education leaders and teacher trainers to our school. It was a privilege to showcase how we use evidence in practice, and I’m incredibly proud of our staff and pupils for the passion and professionalism they displayed.”

Jonathan Bell, Executive Principal at Werneth Primary, highlighted the school’s commitment to evidence-informed education: “We are proud advocates of an evidence informed approach to meeting the needs of learners, combining our in-depth knowledge of our school context and community with what research tells us will support children and staff to succeed.”
