The Saddleworth Village Olympics celebrated its 40th anniversary, tracing its origins to David Needham's vision as former chair of Saddleworth Parish Council. The event, initially intended as a one-time fundraiser for local youth, has grown into a beloved tradition. Rugby legend Kevin Sinfield opened the games, sharing his own participation as a child. The organizing committee, volunteers, coaches, and village teams were thanked for their efforts. The opening weekend featured athletics, tug of war, netball, and tag rugby, with more events scheduled and medal ceremonies planned for October.
