VE Day celebrated in style at Oldham Total Care

Oldham Total Care in Chadderton hosted a memorable VE Day celebration to mark the 80th anniversary, featuring live wartime-era music, community gatherings, and remembrance moments, with strong participation from residents, staff, and sponsors.

Sunshine bathed Chadderton as more than 100 residents of Oldham Total Care nursing home marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a street-party style celebration that drew staff, families and neighbours together under red-white-and-blue bunting.

Shane Doyle, a carer at the home and singer supplied by event sponsor LB Telecom, belted out wartime classics that soon turned the garden into an open-air singalong. “His performance was a real highlight and had everyone singing along,” organisers said, as tea, cake and refreshments circulated among guests who paused for remembrance moments honouring local veterans.

LB Telecom, which funded the afternoon, described the gathering as “a chance to give back and say thank you to those who served, and to bring joy to the residents of Oldham Total Care in a truly heartfelt way.” By the final chorus of “We’ll Meet Again”, staff agreed the sunshine, smiles and community spirit had delivered the memorable day they had promised.
