Salford youths benefit from police funding

The Greater Manchester High Sheriff’s Police Trust has provided funding to Cadishead Rhinos Rugby League Club, enabling them to purchase new rugby equipment and medical supplies. The funding aims to support youth development, crime prevention, and community safety. The trust has invested over £10.8 million in similar projects over the past 30 years.

Cadishead Rhinos Rugby League Club has secured fresh funding from the Greater Manchester High Sheriff’s Police Trust, allowing the Lord’s Street side to buy dozens of new rugby balls, training equipment and vital medical supplies for its young players.

The grant - drawn from a £10.85 million pot the Trust has distributed since 1994 - arrived as the club appointed new chairman Matty Taylor and stepped up its outreach work in Salford. Police Community Support Officer Nigel Kirk, who visited the pitch with colleagues last week, said the money gives local children “a space to express themselves through activities and sport”. Inspector Steven Corless added: “I hope that the money donated will help provide a safe and supportive environment for our youths to explore new skills and enhance their abilities and confidence.”

The High Sheriff’s Police Trust, set up three decades ago to finance crime-prevention and community-safety projects, prioritises vulnerable groups and victims of crime. Any not-for-profit group in Greater Manchester can apply for support via the Trust’s website.
