ORLFC Foundation Launches as Charity, Unveils £100k Community Hub

The ORLFC Foundation officially launched today after securing charitable status, marking a transformative moment for sports-based community development in Oldham. The newly-chartered organization has already invested over £100,000 in renovating its Netpar Training Centre on Fields New Road, converting the facility into a seven-day-a-week community hub.

The Foundation’s expanded pathway programme now serves players from under-11s through under-18s, with plans to launch an educational academy in partnership with Oldham College this September. Students will be able to combine academic studies with rugby league development through the new initiative.

“This is a major milestone for us. It validates the purpose behind everything we are working to achieve and allows us to take our ambitions further,” said Chris Chamberlain, CEO of the ORLFC Foundation. “Oldham is a borough that faces real challenges, with deep-rooted deprivation and inequality, but it is also a place full of opportunity, resilience, and potential.”

The charitable status enables the Foundation to access broader funding streams and develop strategic partnerships to expand its work tackling social challenges in education, health, and social inclusion. Chair John Townsend noted the organization can now “apply for a much greater number of grants than previously, thereby increasing the potential social impact that the Foundation can have on the various communities within Oldham.”

The Foundation aims to use sport as a vehicle for positive change, creating pathways for volunteering, education, and employment opportunities while addressing social inequalities and strengthening community cohesion across the borough.
