Saddleworth Pool and Leisure Centre has reopened its doors after a £250,000 transformation that delivered a complete overhaul of its gym and exercise facilities.

The upgraded wellbeing centre now features a full suite of new cardio and strength training equipment from Technogym, along with an expanded strength area, new flooring, vibrant LED mood lighting and Oldham Active branded décor throughout. The group exercise studio received its own makeover with a refurbished sprung floor, high-tech variable LED lighting and updated décor.

Oldham Active, the charitable trust operating the borough’s leisure facilities, completed the refurbishment in stages to minimise disruption to customers. The investment follows last year’s £750,000 upgrade of other leisure centres across Oldham.

“We are already welcoming our customers back to the new look gym and studio, which feels welcoming and contemporary,” said Alison Jennings, Saddleworth Centre Manager. “Saddleworth Pool and Leisure Centre offers wellness opportunities for all the community, whatever your age, ability, size or interest.”

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, encouraged residents to take advantage of the new facilities. “Leading active, healthy lives is so important and having a place in your community which can help with that is vital,” she said. “The best time to start exercising is right now so I encourage everyone to give it a go and see what works for them.”

Stuart Lockwood, Oldham Active Chief Executive, said the refurbishment reflects the organisation’s commitment to reinvesting earnings back into the community. “Putting our customers first is at the heart of every decision we make,” he said. “We hope customers will enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of this facility for years to come.”
