Roughyeds snap up try-scoring winger

Oldham have completed the signing of winger Luke Forber on a deal through to the end of the 2027 season. The 27-year-old arrives from North Wales Crusaders, where he had been plying his trade in the Championship, and brings with him a remarkable try-scoring record of 61 tries in just 59 career appearances. Forber enjoyed a prolific spell at Rochdale, crossing for 48 tries in 41 matches over three seasons, before his move to North Wales ahead of the expanded Championship campaign. The former Clock Face Miners amateur currently sits joint sixth among leading try-scorers across all competitions this season.

“When Oldham first got mentioned it was really a no-brainer for me,” said Forber. “Obviously Oldham are a top side, and I want to play at the top level myself and playing for Oldham I think I will be doing. I’m known for scoring a few tries so hopefully I can bring that to the team, get some points on the board and keep winning. I’m fit, injury-free and I’m just really happy to get the move done and get back playing again, get back training and playing every week.”

Head coach Alan Kilshaw said: “We’re delighted to bring Luke in — he’s someone we feel can really add to what we’re building here. He’s earned this opportunity through his performances at Rochdale Hornets and North Wales Crusaders, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he develops in our environment. He’s worked hard to get into the professional game, particularly coming into it later than most. He’s fast, a great finisher, and he’ll carry the ball strongly out of the backfield, which will be a real asset for us. He’ll come into a group with strong standards, and like everyone else, he’ll be expected to work hard, compete, and improve every day. We believe he’s got the qualities to fit in well here. He’s got a great opportunity now, and we’re excited to see him take it.”
