Rescue team dash to aid of injured male

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team assisted an injured male in Alkrington Woods, Middleton, by locating and treating him before transporting him to a hospital via ambulance.

Fifteen rescuers spent two-and-a-half hours evacuating a man who injured his ankle while walking in Alkrington Woods, Middleton, after Oldham Mountain Rescue Team received an emergency call from North West Ambulance Service.

The volunteer unit deployed Phone Find technology to pinpoint the walker’s exact location among the trees and reached him within minutes, finding him unable to bear weight on the damaged joint. A NWAS paramedic and a doctor from the North West Air Ambulance arrived shortly afterwards to assess the injury on site.

After splinting the ankle, the combined crews transferred the patient onto a stretcher and carried him through the woodland to a waiting road ambulance for the trip to hospital.
