Rescue heroes dash to the aid of trapped pooch Lily
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team assisted in rescuing a dog named Lily who was trapped in a cave near Dovestone after being spooked during a walk. The rescue involved three OMRT members and two police officers, with Lily eventually being coaxed out by her owner's voice.
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team rescued a frightened dog from a cave near Dovestone Reservoir on Sunday evening, just after completing a water rescue training exercise in the Peak District.
The team had returned to sort through their equipment when Greater Manchester Police requested assistance for Lily, a dog who had bolted from her owner after being spooked during a walk around the reservoir. Two passers-by walking near Ashway Rocks heard barking and discovered the terrified pet hiding in a small cave, refusing to emerge.
Three mountain rescue volunteers accompanied two police officers to the scene, but their attempts to coax Lily out proved unsuccessful. The breakthrough came when rescuers contacted Lily’s owner, who was searching elsewhere, and brought her to the location.
“Lily was much happier to hear her owner’s voice and emerged from the cave excited and shaken jumping into their arms,” an OMRT spokesperson reported. “After a quick check Lily was off back down the hill for further adventures.”
Six team members spent two hours on the rescue operation.
