Proud Oldham Academy North Head salutes Progress 8 score

E-ACT The Oldham Academy North (TOAN) has achieved the best Progress 8 scores among non-selective schools in Oldham, with a score of 0.37, significantly outperforming the local and national averages. The school also saw 47.8% of students achieve GCSE grades of Level 5 or above in Maths and English, and disadvantaged students performed equally well as their peers.

E-ACT The Oldham Academy North has secured the top Progress 8 score among non-selective schools in Oldham, marking a milestone for the school community.

The Department for Education figures released this month show TOAN’s Progress 8 score at 0.37, well above the local authority average of 0.04. This measure tracks student progress from secondary school entry through Year 11 GCSE results across eight core subjects.

The academy saw 47.8% of students achieve GCSE grades at Level 5 or above in Maths and English, exceeding both the local average of 40% and the national figure of 45.9%. Notably, students receiving free school meals performed on par with their peers, defying typical achievement gaps seen locally and nationally.

“The whole school is immensely proud of these latest results, which clearly demonstrate the hard work and efforts of our fantastic students, together with the talent and commitment of our teaching staff,” said Headteacher Jessica Giraud. “We are particularly proud that our exemplary education ensures that even if a student is classed as disadvantaged they can flourish at TOAN.”

Giraud noted recent graduates have secured places at prestigious universities including Manchester for Law, Durham for Physics, and Nottingham for Mechanical Engineering. “They achieve at every stage and are going on to great things,” she said.
