The Shay Wake in Shaw will keep its beer garden open two extra hours daily after Oldham Council approved an extension that lets drinkers linger outside until 10pm.
Managers at the Milnrow Road Wetherspoons said regulars have pressed for later service since the expanded garden debuted last year, pushing closing time from 8pm to 10pm seven days a week.
One neighbour objected, telling the council the area already suffers “crazy noise nuisance” from several pubs and asked, “Is the Shay Wake really not open long enough? The extra noise will be just too much for the neighbours.”
Council planners sided with the pub, noting the venue operated without complaints during pandemic recovery hours and has pledged 15-minute staff patrols and immediate management escalation of any noise issues.
