Police appeal follows targeted handbag theft in Oldham town centre car park

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for information after a robbery in Oldham town centre's Spindles car park, where a suspect followed a victim and stole their handbag before fleeing towards a Sainsbury’s store.

Handbag Snatched in Oldham Car Park as Police Hunt Robber

A woman was robbed in broad daylight yesterday afternoon inside the Spindles car park on Peter Street, Oldham, with the thief snatching her handbag before fleeing toward Sainsbury’s.

The attack happened shortly after 4pm on the fourth floor of the multi-storey, where the suspect had trailed the victim from the lift and payment area. After grabbing the bag, the robber dashed down the staircase that opens onto Peter Street, then headed along Union Street in the direction of the supermarket.

Greater Manchester Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses and dash-cam footage recorded around the time of the incident.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 quoting the log number 2316 of 19/12/2024,” a spokesperson said. “Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.”
