A fatal road traffic collision occurred in Rochdale after a Toyota Aqua Hybrid, involved in a theft of motor vehicle incident, failed to stop for police and collided with a Volkswagen Up on Manchester Road. An 18-year-old man died at the scene, while two suspects (a man in his 20s and a 17-year-old boy) were arrested for death by dangerous driving and related offences. The Volkswagen driver was unharmed. Authorities are appealing for information and dashcam footage.
Teenager Killed as Stolen Toyota Slams into Volkswagen After Police Chase in Heywood
An 18-year-old man died at the scene after a stolen Toyota Aqua Hybrid crashed into a Volkswagen Up on Manchester Road around 9:15pm Tuesday. The collision occurred when the Toyota, which had refused to stop for police pursuing it from William Greenwood Close, smashed into the Volkswagen and came to rest.
A man in his 20s and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking and related driving offences. Both remain in custody for questioning. The Volkswagen driver escaped injury and stayed to help officers with their investigation.
Greater Manchester Police has referred the incident to its Professional Standards Directorate and the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as required by procedure.
