One of the last drinking spots in Mossley to be turned into flats

A former pub in Mossley, Best O’Brass, will be converted into three flats, marking the loss of another local drinking spot. The pub closed in February 2023 and was later sold at auction. The Commercial and Britannia Inn are now the last remaining traditional pubs in Bottom Mossley.

Best O’Brass pub on Manchester Road will become three new flats after serving its final pint in February 2023, ending hopes the Bottom Mossley watering hole might reopen.

Developer TMJ Contractors Ltd plans to convert the ground-floor bar area into residential space and transform the cellar into a one-bed studio flat, while creating two additional two-bedroom flats with separate kitchens and living areas. An existing flat already occupies the first floor.

The pub went to auction in March 2023 after its previous owner advertised for a new landlord in November 2022 at £10,000 annual rent, describing it as “a friendly ‘locals’ community drinks only focused pub, which is well supported” that featured cask ale, quiz nights and open the box nights to drive footfall from “locals looking for a friendly place to meet and have fun.”

With Best O’Brass now de-licensed, only the Commercial and Britannia Inn remain as traditional pubs on Bottom Mossley’s main high street.
