Oldham hero Alan wins Pride of Retail Award

Alan Wrigley, a 91-year-old B&Q employee from Oldham, has won the Retail Week Pride of Retail Award 2025 for his dedication to social mobility, inclusivity, and fundraising efforts, which include raising over £175,000 for charities.

Proud Oldhamer Alan Wrigley has won the Retail Week Pride of Retail Award 2025 at a glittering ceremony presented by TV presenter, comedian and magician Stephen Mulhern.

The new award brings much-deserved attention to the 91-year-old B&Q colleague from the Oldham store, exemplifying the retail sector’s ongoing dedication to ensuring social mobility and inclusivity are a priority. Wrigley, who has worked as a greeter at B&Q for the last 20 years, has fundraised over £175,000 in memory of his son for various charities including funding wheelchairs for four children and a child’s Disneyland trip, and for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and Springhill Hospice.

Wrigley was a finalist of the regional Pride of Britain Fundraiser of the Year award 2024 for the northwest. In recognition of his fundraising attempts over the years, in 2022, he was invited to the Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace where he received a British Empire Medal.

The Retail Week Pride of Retail Award win is yet another celebration of his commitment to help other people and B&Q is proud to have him as a colleague.
