Stockport police have released an e-fit image of a man wanted for questioning after a woman was violently attacked while walking home in Bredbury in the early hours of Thursday 17 April.

The assault occurred at approximately 12:45am when the victim walked along Vernon Road before taking a dirt path between Newstead Grove and Shakespeare Road. She heard footsteps behind her moments before a man grabbed her waist and hair, attempting to drag her away. The attacker then struck her multiple times while placing his hand around her neck before suddenly releasing her, allowing the woman to escape toward Dark Lane.

The suspect is described as having black floppy hair falling onto his forehead, bushy eyebrows, a pointed nose, and a short, well-kept full beard. He wore a dark hooded top with small writing on the left breast.

“This random, unprovoked attack was terrifying for the woman involved, and could have easily been much worse,” stated Detective Constable Paul Hewitt from Greater Manchester Police’s Stockport district. “We are continuing to patrol the area for reassurance and I would urge anyone with any queries to speak to a police officer.”

Police have conducted extensive enquiries since the incident and are appealing for public assistance. Anyone recognizing the man in the e-fit image or with information should contact Stockport CID on 0161 856 9629, call 101, or visit gmp.police.uk.
