Middleton street cordoned off after shots fired at house

Police sealed off part of Green Lane in Middleton today after a motorbike rider fired four shots at a house shortly before 22:00 GMT on Wednesday.

No-one was hurt and no arrests have yet been made, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Officers remained at the scene overnight while forensic teams examined the area and house-to-house enquiries continued.

Detectives are treating the shooting as an isolated incident and say it is not connected to any recent firearms incidents in neighbouring Rochdale.

Det Supt Phil Key, from GMP’s Rochdale district, said patrols had been stepped up to reassure residents.

“Incidents involving firearms always cause understandable concern,” he said.
”Extra officers are in the area both to keep people safe and to speak to anyone who may have worries or information.”

Police are appealing for witnesses and for anyone with doorbell, dash-cam or CCTV footage recorded in or around Green Lane on Wednesday evening to come forward.

Information can be given by calling 101 quoting log 3455 of 12 March, or by using the force’s Live Chat service at gmp.police.uk.
