New head teacher announced for the Oldham Academy North
The Oldham Academy North (TOAN) has appointed James Wilson as its new headteacher, effective from September 1, 2025. Wilson, currently headteacher at Waterhead Academy, has a strong track record in school improvement and leadership, with a focus on raising standards and inclusivity.
James Wilson will become headteacher of The Oldham Academy North from September 1, 2025, bringing his track record of transforming struggling schools to the role.
Wilson currently leads Waterhead Academy, where he steered the institution out of Ofsted’s ‘special measures’ category through a comprehensive improvement programme focused on raising standards and strengthening school culture. His previous role as senior leader at Moor End Academy in Huddersfield - rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted - saw him contribute to the school’s strong performance and inclusive environment.
“I’m delighted to be joining TOAN - a school with a strong reputation, a talented staff team, and a clear commitment to excellence,” Wilson said. “My focus will be on sustaining the high standards already in place, building a culture of ambition, and ensuring every student has the opportunity to achieve their very best.”
E-ACT CEO Tom Campbell praised the appointment, stating: “James brings a wealth of leadership experience and a deep understanding of the local education landscape. His focus on high standards, inclusion, and opportunity makes him an excellent fit for TOAN, and we’re confident he will lead the academy with clarity and purpose.”
