New community café to be built
The old sports pavilion in Mossley will be demolished and replaced with a community café/bar and function room, aiming to transform the vandalized building into a vibrant community hub.
Mossley’s derelict sports pavilion will be torn down and replaced with a café-bar and function room in a bid to transform the vandalized eyesore into a community hub.
The corner plot at Egmont Street playing fields, which has fallen victim to vandalism in recent years, will be redeveloped by Works4U after the company collaborated with Mossley Town Council in 2023 to gather local input on the site’s future.
The new pavilion will operate from 7am to 11pm daily and employ three staff members, according to plans from the Stalybridge-based educational organization. Beyond serving food and drinks, the facility will provide hospitality skills training and serve as a gathering place for community members and park users.
The original pavilion, built in the 1950s and reconstructed in the 1960s/1970s, served primarily as changing rooms for the adjacent playing pitches before falling into disrepair. Works4U stated: “We seek to enhance the lives of all learners by helping them to raise their self-esteem, build their confidence and achieve their full potential in terms of education and vocational training, recognised qualifications, skills and employment enhancement.”
