Mossley community bowled over by cricket club pitch

The Mossley SOUP event raised £1,695 for Micklehurst Cricket Club's Kippax Corner Regeneration project, with additional funds from sponsors and donations. The event featured presentations from local projects, entertainment, and community engagement.

Micklehurst Cricket Club’s plan to transform its Kippax Corner seating area will go ahead after organisers walked away with £1,695 from Monday night’s Mossley SOUP crowdfunding dinner at Emmaus Mossley.

More than 160 residents paid £5 each for soup and live music, then listened to four-minute pitches from four local projects before casting their votes. The Kippax Corner Regeneration scheme beat proposals from Milton St John’s PTA, Mossley Town Twinning Committee’s football tournament and “Walk Tall” by Full Stilt.

Chris Hepworth, who spoke for the cricket club, said:
“What a fantastic community initiative! We were delighted to be invited to present at Mossley SOUP and all of the projects were great. We are privileged to have won and can’t thank Mossley SOUP, supporters and everyone who attended on the night enough. I was nervous before presenting on behalf of the club, but everyone was very kind and welcoming so that put me at ease. Well done to everyone involved with Mossley SOUP and we look forward to utilising the vital funds to make our project a reality.”

The pot was filled by door donations, a raffle, a £250 grant from Mossley Town Council and £100 from event sponsor Premier Kia, which also gave £100 to each of the three runners-up. Volunteers Danny, Daz and Rita served four soups made with ingredients donated by Co-op Mossley and Mossley Organic and Fine Foods; attendees supplied cakes and local businesses donated raffle prizes. The next Mossley SOUP is scheduled for October 2025 and is inviting project proposals from individuals, artists, community groups, charities and businesses.
