Hartley’s Hero Walk to Celebrate Community Champions at Alexandra Park
Dr Kershaw’s Hospice mascot Hartley the dog will lead families on a special dusk walk through Alexandra Park in Oldham on Saturday, October 18, as the beloved pooch launches an event honoring everyday heroes.
Children and parents are invited to dress as their personal heroes—whether Hollywood superheroes, athletes, teachers, or family members—for the dog-friendly walk that begins at 5pm. Each participant receives a fundraising pack containing a DIY hero mask, cape, and guide, with a £40 fundraising target supporting the Royton hospice’s patient care.
“Put this date in your calendar - it is the perfect activity before Halloween and Bonfire Night,” said Alice Entwistle, fundraising events lead at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. “The short, looped route is great for all ages, and it is also suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.”
The Heroes Hub at the park will feature refreshments, entertainment, and stalls, with glow-in-the-dark elements adding excitement to the evening. Every participant earns a completion medal.
Tickets, available at www.drkh.org.uk/hero-walk, cost £10 per child and £2.50 per adult, with free entry for children under 18 months. Gates open at 4pm for the event expected to finish by 7pm.
