Moorland fire causes major road closure
A moorland fire near Holmfirth Road in Oldham led to a major road closure, with emergency services responding to the incident. The road is expected to remain closed until morning, and fire crews are working to extinguish the blaze.
Holmfirth Road near the Saddleworth border with West Yorkshire shut down Tuesday night as emergency crews rushed to battle a moorland blaze.
The fire broke out just after 9 pm off Holmfirth Road in Oldham, prompting Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to dispatch three fire engines from Stalybridge, Mossley and Heywood, along with the Technical Rescue Unit from Ashton and a drone unit.
“While it is difficult to estimate how long this will be for, based on previous incidents of a similar nature this road is likely to remain closed until the morning,” a police spokesperson warned drivers.
Firefighters worked through the night to bring the flames under control and stayed at the scene to prevent any spread across the tinder-dry moorland.
