Man and woman found dead in reservoir car wreckage named
A man and woman, identified as John and Marilyn Saxon, both 78, were found dead in a car that entered Crook Gate Reservoir in Oldham. Emergency services responded to the scene on March 15, 2025, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Two elderly residents died Saturday morning when their vehicle plunged into Crook Gate Reservoir off Huddersfield Road in Denshaw, Oldham, authorities confirmed.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a collision at 10:10 am and discovered the submerged vehicle containing the bodies of John and Marilyn Saxon, both 78. Recovery teams pulled the wreckage from the water as police established a perimeter around the reservoir.
“Officers attended the scene and following investigations, it is believed that a vehicle has entered the Reservoir,” a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson stated. “Sadly, the bodies of a man and a woman in their 70s were recovered.”
The couple’s family released a statement describing them as “a kind, caring and generous husband and wife who sadly passed away following an incident at the reservoir on Saturday.” Relatives requested privacy as they grieve their loss while specialist officers provide support.
