Lidl begins work on new Oldham store

Lidl has started construction on its third store in Oldham, located on Albert Street, set to open by the end of the year. The store will feature a bakery, Middle of Lidl section, customer toilets, ample parking, and solar panels. The investment will create around 40 jobs and boost the local economy, with Lidl emphasizing its commitment to fair pay for employees.

Lidl has broken ground on its third Oldham store, responding to surging demand for the discount supermarket’s combination of quality and low prices.

The Albert Street location will open before year’s end, bringing 1,334 square metres of retail space complete with the chain’s award-winning bakery, the popular ‘Middle of Lidl’ promotional aisle, and customer toilets with baby-changing facilities. Solar panels will power the building, while the car park will offer electric vehicle charging points alongside spaces for cars and bicycles.

The multi-million-pound development will create approximately 40 new positions, with new hires earning Lidl’s industry-leading wages that increased across the company this month. “It’s fantastic to see construction underway on our newest store in Oldham,” said Nick Harvey, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB. “As demand continues to grow across Greater Manchester, this new Lidl will provide even more residents with access to our best value offering. We’re proud that this investment will not only enhance convenience for our customers but also create jobs and contribute to the local economy. With our plans on track for an opening before the end of the year, we look forward to keeping the community updated.”

The German retailer has consistently ranked as Britain’s fastest-growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket for over a year as shoppers increasingly turn to its value proposition.
