Junior football tournament proves a roaring success
The Saddleworth 3Ds Under-12 girls' football team and Rochdale Ladies AFC hosted a successful junior football tournament, with over 120 girls participating. The event, seen as a significant step forward for girls' football in the area, featured competitive matches, including a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory for Todmorden Warriors in the under-12s and a win for Rochdale AFC Ladies in the under-11s. The tournament was organized and officiated by women and supported by local sponsors.
Junior Girls’ Football Tournament a Roaring Success
More than 120 girls took part in a weekend tournament hailed as a major boost for girls’ football in the area.
The Under-12 event, jointly staged by Saddleworth 3Ds and Rochdale Ladies AFC, ended with Todmorden Warriors edging Upper-mill on penalties.
Rochdale’s own girls’ side lifted the Under-11 trophy, beating Haslingden Falcons in a tense final.
Female organisers, coaches and referees ran the show, and smiling players left no doubt the day was a triumph for the grassroots game.
