Hospital stabbing incident - man charged with attempted murder

A man has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article following a stabbing incident at Royal Oldham Hospital. The victim, a nurse, is receiving treatment, and police are supporting those affected.

A 37-year-old Royton man will face Manchester Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with attempting to murder a nurse inside Royal Oldham Hospital’s Acute Medical Unit.

Rumon Haque, of Royton, is accused of attacking the woman shortly before midnight on Saturday, 11 January, and was additionally charged with possessing a bladed article. He has been remanded in custody.

Greater Manchester Police said the nurse remains in hospital receiving treatment for her injuries. Detective Superintendent Matt Walker, Oldham district commander, said: “Our thoughts are with the nurse as she continues to receive treatment in hospital for her injuries, and our priority remains supporting her, her family, and her colleagues at this difficult time. We continue to work closely with our NHS colleagues to support anyone who has been affected by this incident.”
