St Anne’s CofE Primary School in Lydgate has raised nearly £6,000 for the family of Paul Bowles, a beloved teacher who died after an incident on Broadway in Chadderton last Wednesday near the Elk Mill roundabout.

The 50-year-old educator’s death has left the school community reeling, prompting the Parent Teacher Association to launch a JustGiving campaign originally targeting £1,000. “Our school community is devastated by the tragic loss of a wonderful, kind and funny teacher. We would like to show our support to Mr Bowles’ family at this very difficult time,” the fundraising page states.

Tributes have poured in from devastated parents and colleagues. “A lovely man, our school community is devastated 😢 such a kind and patient teacher, the kids adored him. Thoughts are with his family and friends,” one donor wrote. Another commented: “The victim is Mr Paul Bowles - an amazing teacher at St Anne’s Lydgate. The whole community is in shock. RIP Mr Bowles. Thank you for everything you did for the children and the school.”

Greater Manchester Police responded to reports of a fight at the scene. Officers investigating the incident can be contacted via 101 or GMP’s Live Chat service, quoting log 2812 of 26/03/25. The Major Incident Team is available on 0161 856 0110, or anonymous tips can be submitted to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
