Women in Horticulture Celebrated at Greater Manchester Garden Centre

Women working across Greater Manchester’s horticultural sector gathered Tuesday morning at J Parker’s garden centre in Daisy Nook for a networking event designed to strengthen female representation in the industry.

The 7 April session combined short talks with informal networking, welcoming both established professionals and women considering horticultural careers. Speakers included Helen Waddington, director of services at national charity Perennial, and Nina Agnew, community gardening adviser for the Royal Horticultural Society, who shared insights on career pathways and support available within the sector.

Organisers described the turnout as “inspiring,” noting that many participants left with new contacts and a clearer understanding of how to enter or progress within horticulture. The gathering launches a year-long calendar of free workshops, talks and community events planned at the centre to boost skills development and local engagement.
