Fun-filled family day lights up Grotton Pavilion
A successful community event featuring a circus and Easter market was held at Grotton Pavilion, organized by the Grotton Residents Association and LSG Business Hub. Activities included circus skills, stalls, tombola, face painting, and an Easter Bonnet competition, with sponsors and volunteers contributing to the event's success. The next event will celebrate the Grotton Resident’s Association's 90th anniversary in August.
Grotton Pavilion transformed into a whirlwind of juggling pins, swirling hula hoops and Easter bonnets last weekend when the Grotton Residents Association and Lees, Springhead and Grotton Business Hub staged a sold-out circus show and market.
Tik and Tok of Circus Sensible drew gasps and laughter as they coached children and adults through plate-spinning, juggling and hoop-twirling, while stalls laden with 3-D articulated creatures, hand-baked treats, bespoke cushions, jewellery and garden ornaments ringed the arena. A tombola, raffle, face-painting and “name the bear” stand kept queues busy, and every visitor left clutching an Easter gift donated by Kip McGrath Saddleworth Tutoring, Matthew James Furniture and Apollo’s Greek Restaurant.
The Easter Bonnet parade showcased dozens of imaginative creations before judges awarded goody bags to three young milliners. Organisers Anna Oldfield and Karen Jakeman said the stream of thank-yous made months of planning worthwhile. “It was great to see so many people having such a good time and especially to receive such positive feedback, with stallholders and the community alike already asking if we would be running the event again,” they said, praising volunteers, local businesses and Circus Sensible for “putting on a great show.”
Attention now turns to August, when the Residents Association will mark its 90th anniversary with a music festival at the Pavilion featuring live bands, a DJ and family activities.
