Field where you pay to walk your dog approved

A fenced-off field in Mossley will be created for dog walkers to book slots, providing a safe space for dogs with poor recall or nervous/boisterous tendencies. The facility aims to address concerns over dog attacks in public parks.

Dog owners in Mossley will soon have access to a private field designed exclusively for their pets, offering a secure alternative to public parks where attacks have become increasingly common.

The new facility will occupy vacant grassland between Quick Road and Strawberry Lane, transformed into a fenced enclosure accessible only through a keypad-controlled gate. Mr Doug Kenny, the applicant behind the project, specifically designed the space for dogs with poor recall or those too nervous and boisterous to mix safely with other animals.

“The number of incidents involving irresponsible owners with uncontrolled dogs attacking other innocent dogs in public parks and the wider environment has escalated in recent years resulting in deaths and serious injuries and associated significant distress to the dogs and their owners,” planning documents state. “This is a serious concern for many dog owners who love their pets and treat them like members of the family. Therefore, having a safe and secure exercise facility to use will provide the necessary comfort and peace of mind.”

Customers will book 45-minute slots online, receiving unique security pin codes to access the field. Only four walkers will be permitted simultaneously, with parking available for four vehicles. The facility will provide biodegradable waste bags and operate during daylight hours, with a waste management plan addressing any mess owners fail to clean up.
