Dr Kershaw's set to launch the Great Christmas Tree Chip-Off

Dr Kershaw’s Hospice is launching the Great Christmas Tree Chip-Off event to raise funds for patients and their families by recycling Christmas trees. Participants can drop off their trees at Oldham Rugby Union Football Club for a suggested £10 donation, with chippings used for the hospice's gardens. A collection service is also available for certain Oldham postcodes.

Dr Kershaw’s Hospice is launching its first-ever Great Christmas Tree Chip-Off this weekend, turning post-holiday evergreens into vital funds for patients and their families.

Residents can bring their undecorated real Christmas trees to Oldham Rugby Union Football Club between 11am and 3pm on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th January, with a suggested donation of £10. Families are invited to stay and watch as their trees are chipped for recycling, with some chippings destined for the hospice’s award-winning gardens where patients find peace in nature.

“There’s no need to book in advance - you can just turn up on the day,” said Glenn Drake-Owen, community and partnership fundraiser at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. “It’s a great activity for any little sports fans to learn more about how trees are recycled, plus you’ll be helping patients and their families when they need it the most.”

For those unable to transport their trees, the hospice offers a collection service from January 8-10 in Oldham postcodes OL1, OL2, OL3, OL4, OL8, OL9 and M35. Collection slots must be booked by Sunday, January 5 at drkershawshospice.org.uk/christmastreecollection. The rugby club is located at Byrth Road, OL8 2TJ.
