Masked Thief Targets Sleeping Dementia Patient in Chorlton
A masked intruder stole a handbag from an 80-year-old woman with dementia as she slept in her Corkland Road flat early Sunday morning. The burglary occurred around 5am on 8 December 2024, when the man entered the vulnerable woman’s home while she was defenseless in her bed.
Security cameras installed in the property captured the thief on video, showing him wearing a black mask covering the lower half of his face, dark blue jeans, gloves, a dark jacket and a grey baseball cap. The footage shows him taking the elderly woman’s handbag containing her personal belongings before fleeing the scene.
Sergeant Kevin Thomas of the GMP City of Manchester South Neighbourhood Crime Team condemned the crime: “A vulnerable elderly lady has had her belongings taken while she slept in her own home. An opportunist took advantage of her vulnerability and entered her property, where she should be safe and secure, and her family should feel assured that she is.”
Police urge anyone who recognizes the man from the security footage or witnessed suspicious activity around Corkland Road at 5am Sunday to contact them on 101 quoting log number 3006 of 08/12/24.
