Detectives appeal for information after a fire in Longsight

Police responded to a fire on Birch Hall Lane in Longsight on the evening of February 5, 2025, which is being treated as arson. No injuries were reported, and emergency services quickly contained the fire. Arson investigators are hunting for suspects after a house fire erupted on Birch Hall Lane Wednesday night, with emergency crews racing to extinguish the blaze just before 9:30 p.m. on 5 February 2025.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the fire was brought under control without injuries, but detectives have launched a criminal investigation, treating the incident as deliberate. Detective Chief Inspector Ian McNabb of GMP’s City of Manchester district said fire crews “were able to quickly and safely contain the fire and thankfully no one sustained any injuries,” while acknowledging the alarm the attack has triggered among neighbors. Patrols have been stepped up around Birch Hall Lane as forensic teams and detectives pursue “all available lines of enquiry to ensure that those responsible are identified.”
