Disability Voices Amplified at Oldham Awareness Event

The Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture (CWTC) in Oldham welcomed 106 participants to its headquarters for a Disability Awareness event aimed at amplifying the voices of individuals with disabilities. The gathering brought together seven local organizations and featured expert speakers from across the borough’s support services.

Matthew Bosson from Oldham Council Welfare Rights Service, Martyn Nolan of Oldham Healthwatch, Elliot Sparks from Pennine Mencap, Michael Evans of Miocare, representatives from Oldham College, and Jane Glaysher-White of Action Together addressed the crowd. The event, held in partnership with Scope, drew attendees from throughout the Oldham Borough.

CWTC CEO Mohammed Sarwar emphasized the event’s broader mission beyond discussion. “This event was not just about discussion, but about equal opportunities, training, empowerment, breaking down stigma and ensuring that the right support is accessible to those who need it,” Sarwar stated. “Oldham is a community that thrives on inclusivity and by working together on these kinds of events which ensures that every voice can be heard and is valued.”

The successful gathering marked another step in the borough’s commitment to disability inclusion, with Sarwar expressing gratitude to “the partnerships, guest speakers, CWTC staff and volunteers to make the event successful.”
