Caught in a flash! Roads Policing officers detain carjacker minutes after committing burglary in Rochdale

A 19-year-old suspect was arrested minutes after a burglary in Rochdale, where a CUPRA Formentor was stolen. The Roads Policing Unit quickly located and pursued the vehicle, leading to the arrest. The car was recovered with minor damage and returned to the owner. A second suspect remains at large. Police highlighted their rapid response and noted a decrease in motor vehicle thefts by 18% in 2025.

Teen Arrested After Stolen CUPRA Pursuit in Middleton

A 19-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning after police recovered a stolen CUPRA Formentor that had been taken during a burglary in Middleton.

The Roads Policing Unit received reports of the burglary on Ennerdale Road at approximately 3am on 27 February 2025. Officers located the vehicle within 18 minutes and initiated a pursuit that ended when the suspect’s accomplice abandoned him in the car.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle and remains in custody for questioning. The stolen vehicle, which sustained only minor damage, was returned to its owner Thursday morning.

Police continue to search for the second suspect who fled the scene. PC Pilkington from the Roads Policing Unit, who made the arrest, stated: “This is a prime example of the work we are doing on a daily basis to catch offenders in the act. As a specialised unit we are constantly patrolling the roads across the whole of Greater Manchester and intend to respond to incidents as quickly as we can with the resources at our disposal.”

The quick response demonstrates the unit’s effectiveness, with theft of motor vehicle incidents decreasing by 18% in 2025. Anyone with information about the suspects or related incidents should call 101 quoting incident 296 of 27/02/2025.
