15-year-old Israel Iyabor dies in M60 tragedy as tributes pour in for ‘precious boy’

A 15-year-old boy who died in an incident on the M60 has been named as Israel Iyabor. Emergency services responded to reports of a concern for welfare at junction 20 near Blackley around 4:30pm yesterday, where the teenager was struck by a vehicle.

The motorway was closed in both directions between junctions 19 and 21 for several hours, causing major disruption for thousands of Oasis fans heading to the band’s final concert at Heaton Park. The road reopened at 4am this morning.

More than a dozen floral tributes now line the entry slip road near where the tragedy occurred. One heartfelt card reads: “It was only yesterday we [were] making TikToks. I’ll forever miss your smile, your jokes, and your bubbly personality. I hope you are at peace now you precious boy. I love and miss you so much.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed Israel died at the scene and that his next of kin have been informed. Manchester Coroner’s Court has received a file regarding his death, and an inquest will be opened in due course.

Social media has been flooded with messages of condolence. “So sad. God bless him. Rest in peace” wrote one mourner. “Another beautiful angel gone far too soon. RIP young man” added another. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “The thoughts of everyone at GMFRS are with the family and friends of the boy who sadly lost his life.”
