Appeal for information as officers investigate fatal house fire in Oldham
Police are appealing for information after a fatal fire occurred in a flat on Walkers Road, Oldham, on the evening of 20 February 2025. Emergency services responded but a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are working to identify the deceased and determine the cause of the fire. Detective Inspector Roberto Dicorato urged witnesses or those with CCTV/doorbell footage to come forward.
A person has died following a house fire in Oldham’s Hollins area on Thursday night.
Emergency crews rushed to Walkers Road shortly after 8:25 pm after receiving reports of flames at a flat. Multiple fire engines and police vehicles descended on the residential street, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet identified the deceased as forensic teams continue their examination of the property. Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation to determine what sparked the deadly blaze.
Detective Inspector Roberto Dicorato from GMP’s Oldham district confirmed officers are collaborating with fire investigators to establish the cause. “A person has sadly lost their life following the fire last night, and we are working closely with partners in the fire service to establish the exact cause,” he said. “We have not yet established the full circumstances and would ask anyone with any information, or who witnessed the fire last night, to please get in touch. This includes anyone with nearby CCTV or doorbell footage.”
