Appeal following attempted rape of a woman in Harpurhey
Detectives are appealing for information after a woman in her 50s was sexually assaulted near Rudd Street in Harpurhey, Manchester, between 2:30pm and 3pm on Friday 3 January. The suspect, described as a black male in his mid-20s with dreadlocks and glasses, fled the scene after the victim screamed. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are investigating and have urged the public to come forward with any information. Support services for victims of sexual assault are also highlighted.
Detectives have launched an urgent manhunt after a woman in her 50s was sexually assaulted on a pathway backing onto Rudd Street in Harpurhey, Manchester, between 2:30pm and 3pm on Friday 3 January.
The victim was walking alone when an unknown man approached and attacked her; she screamed, causing the assailant to flee. The suspect is described as a black male, about 25 or 26 years old, 180cm tall, with dreadlocks, glasses, no facial hair, wearing a black winter puffer jacket and black trousers.
DI David Collins of GMP North Manchester CID said: “This was an extremely distressing incident for the woman who was simply walking along a path when she was attacked. We have launched an investigation into this incident and are making a number of enquiries at pace to locate the person responsible. We are now asking the public to come forward with any information that may assist us. There will be an increased presence of officers in the area whilst we continue with our investigation and anyone who has any concerns should speak to us.”
