The 1855 Royton Air Cadets performed at the annual opening of Royton Cricket, Bowling and Running Club's bowling green, despite heavy rain, delighting a full house of spectators. The event was opened by Lady President Mrs Maureen Wilson, who also provided food.
Royton Cricket, Bowling and Running Club launched its 2025 season with a ceremonial green opening led by Lady President Mrs Maureen Wilson, as the 1855 Royton Air Cadets braved torrential rain to deliver a stirring brass band performance for a packed crowd of spectators.
The cadets marched and played without missing a step despite the downpour, their music cutting through the weather to herald the start of the bowling calendar. Mrs Wilson, officiating her annual duty, declared the green open and supplied a spread of food that kept spirits high as umbrellas sprouted across the grounds.
Club volunteers called the rain-soaked ceremony “a great start to the season” and urged townspeople to visit the green throughout the year.
