A stark reminder from much-loved mountain rescue dog Ace

Ace, a mountain rescue dog from Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, was injured during a training session after stepping on a broken glass bottle, leading to a deep cut and sprain. The incident has sparked local concern and serves as a reminder to clean up rubbish, especially glass, in the countryside. Ace is recovering well and has had to wear shoes under vet orders to aid his return to training.

Ace, the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team’s beloved search dog, is recovering after stepping on a broken glass bottle during a snowy training exercise that left him with a deep cut to his rear right pad and a sprained front right paw.

The incident sparked an outpouring of concern from locals who flooded social media with requests for updates on the popular canine’s condition. “This incident stands as a stark reminder to look after the countryside when you use it and take your rubbish home with you especially glass bottles. Leave nothing but memories!” said an OMRT spokesperson.

The veterinary team at Donaldsons has been caring for Ace, who faces a few more check-ups as his wound continues to heal. Bandages may come off this week, though vets have prescribed special shoes to protect his paws when he returns to training. “Under vets orders, Ace has had to ask Santa for some shoes, so he’s able to get back to training and doing what he loves. But for now it’s resting, treats and shoe shopping,” the team reported.
