A much-loved Glodwick building is set for a new chapter as the refurbished Marlborough Centre officially reopens under the management of local boxing organisation, NxtGen Boxing. The building, formerly known as the Pakistani Community Centre, has undergone significant refurbishment thanks to Oldham Council's investment and the hard work of the club to support the fit-out. Previously the building had to be closed due to Health and Safety due to significant disrepair. The Council stepped in and recognised the benefit the centre would bring to the local community and without immediate work to bring it back to life, the building would have stood derelict. Oldham town centre will burst into festive colour on Saturday 15 November as the annual Christmas Lights Switch-On Show returns. The main stage show takes place from 5.30pm to 6.30pm outside the Old Town Hall and will be a night to remember with performances from Oldham's Fierce Dance and the Oldham Coliseum production 'A Christmas Fair'. Plus, Anton Benson's Beauty and the Beast panto cast from the Queen Elizabeth Hall will grace the stage, alongside Ollie & Millie, Rodney the Reindeer, and Oldham's very own Frank Rothwell. Teams will be out across the borough tackling fly-tipping, clearing alleyways and litter hotspots, restoring pride in Oldham's neighbourhoods. Last time, residents, volunteers and council teams joined forces to clear hundreds of tonnes of rubbish from streets, parks and alleyways. Since that time, council teams have continued to remove fly-tips across that borough. Where possible, waste is reused, recycled or used for energy. Families can also visit Santa's Grotto at the Market Hall from 12 to 4pm on all event dates.
