What a load of rubbish!
Twenty volunteers, including three youngsters, participated in a community litter pick in Greenfield, collecting 26 bags of rubbish and miscellaneous items like a bicycle and road cones. The event was supported by Tesco Greg, with refreshments provided afterwards at Boarshurst Band Club.
Twenty volunteers braved bitter winds on Saturday to sweep Greenfield village clean, hauling away 26 bulging bags of rubbish plus a bizarre haul that included a bicycle, a scooter, road cones, a road sign and even a fire extinguisher.
Three children joined the adult workforce for the Street Scene Greenfield Community Litter Pick, turning out despite sunshine that did little to blunt the icy gusts sweeping the streets. “Although the sun was shining, there was a bitterly cold wind so thanks to all who braved the elements,” organiser Steph Pelmore said.
Tesco Greg provided welcome hot drinks and snacks afterwards at the Boarshurst Band Club, where cold volunteers warmed up and celebrated a morning’s work that left the village noticeably cleaner.
