Unsafe fake Labubu dolls seized by Oldham Trading Standards

Oldham Council’s Trading Standards team seized 104 counterfeit 'Labubu' dolls and accessories from local businesses due to safety concerns. The fake dolls, which mimic popular figures by Chinese company Pop Mart, were poorly made, lacked required safety marks, and posed choking hazards. Officials warned parents against purchasing such items and encouraged reporting unsafe products.

Fake Labubu Dolls Worth £1,000 Seized in Oldham Safety Crackdown

Oldham Council’s Trading Standards officers have confiscated 104 counterfeit Labubu dolls from local shops after discovering the popular toys posed serious choking hazards to children.

The fake dolls, which mimic characters from Chinese company Pop Mart’s viral TikTok sensation, were being sold at bargain prices despite having dangerous manufacturing defects. Officers found the dolls’ eyes, hands and feet detached easily, creating lethal choking risks for young children.

The seized counterfeit toys carried a street value of £800-£1,000 but lacked essential safety markings including CE and UKCA labels. Many dolls showed poor stitching quality and none displayed legally required UK supplier contact information.

Councillor Elaine Taylor warned parents about the hidden dangers of counterfeit toys: “These counterfeit toys failed safety standards and have now been removed from sale. We know it can be tempting to buy toys that look like a bargain, but parents need to be extra careful. Fake toys like these may be cheaper, but they can put children in real danger if they’re not made to strict safety standards.”

Trading Standards continues inspecting local businesses and threatens prosecution for traders knowingly selling dangerous counterfeit goods. Concerned residents can report unsafe products through the Consumer Helpline on 0808 223 1133.
