TWO missed chances to stop Islamic State brutal murder of 'kind, courteous' teacher in 'serious blunder'

A public inquiry has concluded that there were two missed opportunities to prevent the brutal murder of Jalal Uddin, a 71-year-old Rochdale Imam, by Islamic State extremists in 2016. The attackers, Mohammed Kadir and Mohammed Syeedy, targeted Uddin for practising a form of Islamic healing they deemed blasphemous. The inquiry found that Counter Terrorism Police had identified Kadir as a high-risk individual but failed to act effectively, leading to the loss of opportunities to disrupt the plot. Kadir fled to Syria, while Syeedy received a life sentence. A third man, Mohammed Syadul Hussain, was sentenced to five years for aiding Kadir's escape.
