Two men jailed for more than 30 years after violence erupts and shots fired in Manchester and Stockport
Two men, Zaki Shazad and Kieran Morgan, have been sentenced to a combined 34 years in prison for a series of violent incidents involving firearms in Manchester and Stockport in early 2023. The incidents included shootings at residential properties and a burger bar, with no serious injuries reported. Extensive CCTV and forensic evidence linked the men to the crimes, and their social media activity and communications were used in the investigation. Greater Manchester Police emphasized their commitment to reducing gun violence and urged the public to report illegal firearms.
Two Manchester men will serve a combined 34 years behind bars for a three-week campaign of gun violence that saw shots fired at families in their homes and into a crowded burger restaurant.
Zaki Shazad, 21, of Ranford Road, Levenshulme, received 16 years at Minshull Street Crown Court on 9 June after a jury convicted him of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life. Kieran Morgan, 29, of Dean Street, Failsworth, was handed an 18-year sentence with an additional five years on licence after admitting the same charge.
The court heard how Morgan opened fire on 12 March 2023 at a house on Dorac Avenue, Heald Green, firing a shotgun before hurling a homemade explosive containing hydrochloric acid - all captured on the victim’s doorbell camera. Six weeks later, on 21 April, he returned to the same suburb and discharged a sawn-off double-barrelled shotgun at a family home on Wilmslow Road as a six-year-old girl stood in the driveway. The final attack came on 30 April when Morgan walked into DRIP Burger on Kingsway and fired two shots - one towards the counter where customers waited and another towards staff preparing food. Miraculously, no one was injured.
Detectives linked the shootings through extensive CCTV analysis, cell-site data and social media evidence, including a Snapchat photo Morgan posted wearing the distinctive Canada Goose jacket seen in the footage. Detective Inspector Lee Newburn said: “It is miraculous that no-one was seriously injured during these firearms discharges, but they could very easily have been. Violence, particularly this kind of revenge violence, will not be tolerated on the streets of Manchester.”
