Two men charged with rape of teenage girl in Manchester city centre
Two Romanian men, Mario-Alexandru Ratou and Mario-Vifor Ratou, were charged with raping an under-16-year-old girl in Manchester city centre and remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Crown Court on 8 May 2026.
Two men appeared in court at the weekend after being charged with the rape of a teenage girl in Manchester city centre.
Mario-Alexandru Ratou (10/10/1999) a Romanian national of no fixed abode, has been charged with rape of a girl aged under 16.
Mario-Vifor Ratou (14/09/2003), a Romanian national of no fixed abode, has been charged with rape of a girl aged under 16 and false imprisonment.
Both men appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 11 April 2026 and have been remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Friday 8 May 2026.
They were arrested on Tuesday 7 April 2026 after a report of rape at a flat in the Green Quarter area of the city earlier the same day.
A third man in his 20s arrested on suspicion of rape has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Chief Superintendent David Meeney, GMP’s City of Manchester District Commander, said: “Our priority is ensuring the girl, and her two friends who were with her at the time of the attack, continue to receive specialist support during this traumatic time, and as this case proceeds through the court.
“We know this will cause concern across our communities, however as criminal proceedings are now active, I urge the public not to speculate so the legal process can take its proper course for the girl and her family.
“We remain firmly committed to protecting young girls across Greater Manchester and to help people feel safe.
“I ask that the public continue to support us - if you have any information that could help the investigation, please come forward and report it.”
