Two men charged after incident at Manchester Airport in July

Two men, Muhammad Amaad (25) and Mohammed Fahir Amaaz (20), both from Rochdale, have been charged with assaulting police officers and a member of the public following an incident at Manchester Airport in July. The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the charges, which include multiple counts of actual bodily harm and assault on emergency workers. The men will appear in court on January 16, 2025. The suspension of an involved officer has been lifted, though a misconduct investigation continues. Chief Constable Stephen Watson emphasized the importance of allowing court proceedings to proceed without prejudice.

Two Rochdale men will face assault charges in connection with a July incident at Manchester Airport that left multiple police officers injured, authorities announced.

Muhammad Amaad, 25, and Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, both of Rochdale, have been formally charged after the Crown Prosecution Service reviewed evidence submitted by Greater Manchester Police in August. The pair are scheduled to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on January 16, 2025.

Amaaz faces four charges including two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against both a male and female police officer, one count of assault on an emergency worker involving a second female officer, and common assault against a member of the public. Amaad has been charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against a male police officer.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Stephen Watson confirmed the charges and announced that suspension has been lifted for one officer involved in the incident, though an Independent Office for Police Conduct misconduct investigation remains ongoing. “I welcome today’s decisions from the Crown Prosecution Service to charge two men with assaults on our officers and a member of the public at Manchester Airport earlier this year,” Watson stated, adding that no further criminal action would be taken against serving officers.

All officers involved in the incident continue to receive support from both Greater Manchester Police and the GMP Federation.
