Two arrests made in Trafford action against domestic abuse

Two men were arrested in Trafford for suspected domestic abuse offenses, including public order violations and stalking. Greater Manchester Police emphasize their ongoing commitment to tackling domestic abuse and protecting victims, highlighting the various forms abuse can take beyond physical violence. Resources and support options for victims are provided.

Police arrested two men in dawn raids across Trafford on Tuesday as part of a crackdown on suspected domestic abuse offenders.

Officers detained a 28-year-old man in Old Trafford under the Public Order Act after he allegedly appeared at a woman’s home shouting obscenities and causing distress. A 35-year-old man from Sale was also arrested on suspicion of stalking following reports that a woman received more than 50 calls daily from a man who had also been appearing at her residence and those of her family members.

Both suspects remain in custody as detectives continue their investigations.

The arrests come as Greater Manchester Police revealed they had arrested more than 20,000 individuals on suspicion of domestic abuse offences in the past year. Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Keenaghan, vulnerability lead for Trafford, emphasized the force’s ongoing commitment to protecting victims.

“Domestic abuse can often feel unescapable for victims. There are so many facets to this behaviour, which go beyond physical abuse which is what people typically think of when they hear the words domestic abuse,” Keenaghan stated. “Taking action against those we believe to be committing offences against their partners, ex-partners, friends, or family members is daily business for us, to ensure we are keeping those suffering safe.”

Police urge anyone experiencing domestic abuse to report it by calling 101 or 999 in emergencies. Victims can also report incidents online at www.gmp.police.uk or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
