Man Wanted on Prison Recall Arrested After 120mph M60 Chase in Rain
A 37-year-old man wanted on recall to prison was arrested yesterday after a high-speed pursuit on the M60 in rainy conditions that saw speeds exceed 120mph. The chase began shortly after 3:35pm when a Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit officer spotted the BMW on the motorway and followed it for approximately five minutes.
The pursuit intensified when the vehicle attempted to exit the motorway before suddenly veering back onto the main carriageway. Over the next two minutes, the driver weaved dangerously between vehicles and drove into oncoming traffic before abandoning the vehicle and being arrested. The man was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, possession of indecent images of children, and being wanted on recall to prison.
Detective Sergeant Carla Dalton, from GMP’s Challenger Team, said: “This was a successful pursuit which resulted in the arrest of a suspect for various offences - and we are currently progressing our investigation. Our TVIU officers are highly trained for pursuit situations, ensuring they can secure quick and efficient arrests of individuals who simply don’t care for the safety of others around them. I hope this sends a message to criminals that our officers are always on the lookout, always alert, and always ready to take the appropriate action.”
The suspect remains in custody as officers continue their enquiries.
